Boston Celtics sign former Suns forward to training camp deal (report)

The Celtics are adding former Suns two-way player Jalen Bridges on a training camp deal. The 6-foot-8 forward rookie will also join Boston’s Summer League team in Las Vegas according to Jay King of the Athletic.

The contract will likely be an Exhibit 10 deal which will give Bridges an opportunity to make the final roster with the team during camp. Bridges could also earn a $85,000 bonus if he remains with the Maine Celtics in the G-League for 60 days after being released during training camp.

Bridges went undrafted out of Baylor last year but signed a two-way contract with the Suns over the summer. He spent the majority of his rookie year playing in the G-League with the Valley Suns, posting 14.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He has strong defensive numbers and knocked down 38 percent from 3-point range in the G-League so he will be another option for Boston amid a crowded pool of young wings across the team’s roster. The team also added Josh Minott earlier this week on a minimum deal.

Bridges will join several Celtics roster players in the G-League including Jordan Walsh, Baylor Scheierman, Miles Norris and all three draft picks (Hugo Gonzalez, Amari Williams, Max Shulga).

The Suns did not offer Bridges a qualifying offer before free agency, freeing him up to ink a new deal with Boston. The 24-year-old spent two years in college playing at West Virginia before transferring to Baylor.
