Sources: Another Prem club join Sunderland and Aston Villa in race to sign Petrovic

Aston Villa, Sunderland, and Bournemouth are all exploring a move to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in the summer transfer window, sources have confirmed on GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast.

Petrovic made the move to Stamford Bridge back in August 2023, before making his debut just a few months later against Everton. The Serbian goalkeeper found it difficult to nail down a regular starting spot, and he later moved to Strasbourg on a season-long loan at the beginning of the 2024/2025 campaign.

After an impressive spell in France, Petrovic has now returned to Chelsea with his loan spell ending, but he could be on his way out the door once again. The Blues could now be open to allowing him to depart on a permanent deal, with multiple clubs in the Premier League and abroad showing an interest.

Chelsea Will Allow Petrovic to Depart

He can leave for just under £26m

Described as "world-class" by manager Liam Rosenior, Petrovic wasn't named in Chelsea's Club World Cup squad for the summer competition, and he has a pact with the capital club that he can leave if they receive a bid of around €30m (£26m). The Serbian goalkeeper returned to Stamford Bridge with a pay rise, and he wants to be number one after an impressive season.

GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Chelsea don't plan on standing in Petrovic's way during the summer transfer window, as long as their valuation is met. Bournemouth are one of the sides who are firmly in the race to secure his signature after losing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has now joined Arsenal, following his loan spell with the Cherries.

Strasbourg also want a permanent deal

Sources have confirmed to GIVEMESPORT that Sunderland are also exploring a move to sign Petrovic after they missed out on Nice's Marcin Bulka to NEOM SC. The Black Cats are preparing for a return to the Premier League following their promotion last term.

Aston Villa are also in the race as they are looking at potential options if Emi Martinez was to head through the exit door. Strasbourg, Chelsea's sister club, want to sign Petrovic on a permanent deal after his loan spell, but the Serbian international is keeping his options open.

Strasbourg have qualified for the Europa Conference League and can even be upgraded to the Europa League if Lyon's provisional relegation is upheld. Petrovic has also had approaches from Turkey, but he's prioritising a move to a big-five league as it stands.
