Gary Lineker believes Arsenal will end their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo if they sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said the fact that Eze plays in similar positions means it is unlikely that the Gunners will look to bring in both players this summer:

“Eze looks like signing for Arsenal. It looks like that’s going to happen.”
“He plays sort of on that, perhaps on the left-hand side where Rodrygo wants to play, so maybe that’s not going to happen. Who knows?”
Arsenal want to buy 3 forwards
Trusted journalist David Ornstein has confirmed that Eze could be brought in IN ADDITION to a striker and left winger this summer, so Lineker’s comments are probably wide of the mark.
Of course, spending £60m+ on Eze, around £77m on Rodrygo and another £68m on a player like Viktor Gyokeres would prove costly for the Gunners, and it remains to be seen if the club have the funds to do it or not.
A lot still depends on Rodrygo and Martinelli
There remain questions about whether the club’s top target for the left wing is looking to leave Real. The Brazilian hasn’t feature regularly for the La Liga giants at the Club World Cup, with head coach Xabi Alonso having kept him on the bench for the 1-0 win over Juventus in the last 16.
If Rodrygo does signal his intention to move clubs, it could have a knock-on effect. Gabriel Martinelli is believed to be keen on staying with Arsenal at the moment, but he does have interest from Bayern Munich and he has reportedly told them that he would consider a move to Germany if the Gunners end up signing a replacement. It is definitely a situation to keep an eye on.
