Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Federico Chiesa have joined the tributes to Diogo Jota after their Liverpool team-mate was killed in a car accident in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 3). Both the 28-year-old and his brother, Andre Silva, were travelling in the Zamora region of Sanabria when their vehicle veered off the road.

It is understood the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout when heading towards Benavente, with Zamora News reporting that emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 1am on Thursday morning.

‌According to the Zamora provincial council, firefighters attended the scene on the A52, known as the Palacios de Sanabria, after the Lamborghini the pair were travelling in caught fire. Police said the accident happened at 12.30am.

Tributes have flooded in in honour of the Portuguese from the world of football and beyond, with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister the latest members of the Liverpool squad to share their shock at Jota’s passing.

Szoboszlai posted a picture on Instagram of him embracing Jota on the pitch as they celebrated a goal, writing alongside the image: “Words cannot describe how heartbroken and devastated we are...

“Your smile, your love for the game will never be forgotten.

“We will miss you so much, but you will stay with us forever, on and off the pitch. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

“Rest in peace, brother”.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister would also share a picture of him celebrating a goal with Jota on the pitch on the social media platform.

The Argentine wrote: “I can't believe it. I will always remember your smiles, your anger, your intelligence, your companionship and everything that made you a person.

“It hurts a lot, we will miss you. Rest in peace dear Diogo”.

Chiea would also later post his own tribute to his team-mate on Instagram as he shared a picture of the two before the game.

Alongside the image, the Italian wrote: "Diogo, it's hard to find the right words at a time like this. I still can't believe what happened.

"Love you and miss you so much. My thoughts are with you and your brother Andre, rest in peace. To your family, to your wife and children, I send my most sincere and heartfelt condolences."
