Klopp’s heartfelt tribute to a player and a friend

Klopp, who signed Jota from Wolves in 2020 for £41 million, managed the forward for four seasons.

In that time, the Portugal international won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and most recently lifted the Premier League title under Arne Slot.

Jota also played in a Champions League final and scored 65 goals across 182 appearances for the Reds.

Posting on Instagram, Klopp expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt message:

“This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it. I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother Andre. Diogo was not only a fantastic player but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father. We will miss you so much!”

He continued: “All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them. Rest in peace – Love J.”

Jota’s death comes just weeks after he married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso in their home city of Porto.

He leaves behind his young family, teammates, and countless fans who admired his spirit and talent.

Klopp’s tribute captures what many are feeling, a deep sadness at the loss of a brilliant footballer and a warm, generous person whose impact went far beyond the pitch.
