Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley has paid tribute to “incredible person” Diogo Jota following the tragic death of his Liverpool team-mate aged 28.
Bradley and Jota were important members of the Reds squad that celebrated Premier League glory last season while they also won two EFL Cup crowns and an FA Cup together at Anfield.
Jota’s shock passing was confirmed on Thursday morning after he was involved in a car crash alongside brother Andre Silva in Spain.
A Lamborghini Jota was travelling in veered off the road and burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday.
Liverpool said the club was “devastated” by the news and that it was an “unimaginable loss”.
The Portuguese Football Federation said it was “devastated” to learn of the deaths, adding: “Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football.”
Bradley has also paid tribute to his Liverpool colleague, posting on Instagram: "Rest in peace brother. Don’t have words to describe how I’m feeling but I know we lost an incredible person today.”
Jota joined the Merseyside club from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and scored six goals in 26 Premier League appearances as Arne Slot’s side lifted the title last season.
Tributes from the football world and beyond flooded in for the father of three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso just 11 days ago.
Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo said he wishes Jota’s family “all the strength in the world”.
A translated version of his message on Instagram read: “Doesn’t make any sense.
“Just now we were together in the national team, just now you were married.
“To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.
“I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”
