Leeds United tipped to sign 46-goal striker this summer

Leeds United have had a plan for their attack this summer. They made it known that despite bringing in a new striker, another one would be added later in the window.

Joel Piroe was the undisputed starter last season, and that frustrated fans sometimes. He went long stretches performing poorly, but with Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph on the bench, he had to keep playing. Piroe finished with 19 goals in the Championship, but there are still question marks about his ability.

Sources said the club will push to sign a new striker, with Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic the main target. However, Graeme Bailey revealed that the 25-year old is not a high priority for the club.

Football Insider are reporting that the Whites are still considering a move for Norwich’s Josh Sargent. Former scout Mick Brown revealed the details:

“Leeds have been having a look at Josh Sargent,”

“They have a few doubts about him and whether he could make the step up to the Premier League, but the manager likes him and he’s the one driving the interest.

“They would rather take a chance on somebody who the manager knows and who can do the things he’s looking for, than somebody who might not.

“Sargent is strong, quick, and he’s got a good finish on him.

Brown said that Sargent might be considered due to his price tag.

“…Leeds have been looking at a few strikers and some more ambitious deals than Sargent.

“But those types of deals also cost a lot of money, while he might be a bit of a cheaper and more gettable option for them.”

The American has scored 46 league goals since he arrived in England.

Sargent is an improvement on Piroe, but still not Premier League level

The American is very good at what he does. Sargent may have scored less goals than Joel Piroe in the past few seasons, but his overall play is much better than the Leeds United man. The Norwich striker has the edge over Piroe, but at the Premier League level he still does not cut it.

Sargent has everything; the height and the box presence, but there is still something lacking in his game. If Leeds really need a goalscorer to lead the line in the top flight, then they might need to look elsewhere.
