'Still time': Feeling growing that £45m England star is now destined to play for Liverpool - journalist

Luis Diaz has been angling for a Liverpool move since the 2025-26 summer transfer window opened.

The Colombia international has had offers rejected by Liverpool from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich already, with Arne Slot seeing him as an important part of his plans next term.

The attacker has two years left on his current deal at Anfield, and unless the Reds find a buyer for him this term, he’ll be dropping in value as the season goes on.

As mentioned, Barcelona and Bayern have both had offers rejected for the attacker, but Newcastle have also been keeping a close eye on his situation.

Newcastle believe Liverpool could make a move for Anthony Gordon if Luis Diaz is sold

Anthony Gordon has long been linked with an Anfield switch, even during his time as an Everton player.

Last summer was when a move for the Englishman felt the most likely to occur as Newcastle were searching for ways to boost their PSR in order to abide by the Premier League’s rules.

And, as per a fresh report from journalist Dean Jones, it seems like Newcastle were ‘relieved’ when the Reds rejected the latest bid for Diaz.

This is because there is an ‘expectation’ that Liverpool will eventually ‘come knocking’ for Gordon once again, with the attacker likely to be ‘very interested’ in the move.

However, since Diaz plays in the same position as him and Cody Gakpo is also naturally a left-winger, a move isn’t all that likely until one or both of them depart.

Jones does, however, add that since Diaz has been ‘angling’ for a move recently, he may ‘agitate’ the Reds for a transfer, which could lead to a move for Gordon being back on.

What Liverpool should do with Luis Diaz this summer

Since Diaz only has two years left on his current Liverpool deal, now would arguably be the best time for the Merseyside outfit to sell him, especially if they aren’t going to extend his stay.

The winger was in fine form last season, and although he will likely be key to the way Liverpool play next term, the money they could earn from his sale will likely be worth more to the club in the long run.

So, even though the Reds don’t want to sell him to another team competing in the Champions League, such as Barca or Bayern, it could be the best move for them.

That is, especially if a move for Gordon could be back on the table.
