It remains to be seen whether Forest will accept their latest offer as they have always maintained that the Sweden international is not for sale, but the Toons want him and are willing to test the resolve of the City Ground club.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe wants to bolster his attack as he prepares for the Champions League next term, and Elanga fits the bill following an outstanding campaign in front of goal in 2024-25.

The 23-year-old notched six goals and 11 assists in 38 Premier League games last term after ending 2023-24 with five goals and nine assists in 36 league appearances.

The Magpies offered an initial £30m payment, a swap deal for their former winger Miguel Almiron and two potential further payments of £5m for the Forest star last summer, but the bid was knocked back and they will be hoping to succeed this summer.

Newcastle also have Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus on their radar as they look to sign a right winger, but the former signed a contract extension with the Cherries this week while Tottenham Hotspur want the Hammers star.
