Manchester United have a number of positions to reinforce in the coming weeks. The Red Devils seemed to be doing business early on in the transfer window when they signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves but things have slowed down since.
The club have been heavily linked with a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, although negotiations on that front seem to be moving at snail’s pace. Man Utd cannot put all their eggs in one basket though and need to start looking at other positions as well.
Now, as per Sport Mediaset journalist Orazio Accomando, Man Utd have made contact to sign talented Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, with the Turkish midfielder expected to leave Serie A and move elsewhere this summer.
The journalist mentions that the 31-year-old’s preference is to join Galatasaray in his home country but they won’t be able to offer more than €15m for his services whereas Inter have set an asking price of around £34.5m.
The Turkish giants are aware that if this comes down to a bidding war, their hands are tied as they are unlikely to be able to compete with the riches of the Premier League. Man Utd and Fulham have made enquiries in recent weeks.
Versatility and experience
The experienced 31-year-old midfielder is very versatile and can play a number of roles in midfield. He has operated predominantly as a defensive midfielder in the recent season, but has also played further forward in midfield as and when required.
The Turkish midfielder is vastly experienced and is nearing 100 caps for his international team. He stands at 97 at the moment. He has previously played for top Serie A clubs like AC Milan and now, subsequently, Inter as well.
With a lot of interest in the midfielder, including the Saudi clubs, if Man Utd want him, they will need to act quickly and decisively. It might not be easy but Calhanoglu could be the perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen. It remains to be seen how things play out in this transfer saga.
