Jadon Sancho’s loan spell at Chelsea was a mixed bag despite ending on a high with Conference League glory.

He scored in the final against Real Betis, but inconsistent performances throughout the second half of the season meant he was far from a guaranteed starter.

Sancho ended up finishing the season with five goals and eight assists in 41 games.

Not exactly the return Chelsea fans were hoping for – hence the recent signing of Jamie Gittens who United were also linked to.

For Sancho however, it was a loan spell which ultimately ended up with Chelsea paying the £5m penalty fee to send him back against the obligatory conditions.

Still, his flashes of quality in Europe have put him back on the radar of several clubs, including Juventus, who are now looking to rebuild under Igor Tudor.

Sancho is understood to be open to a move to Turin, seeing it as a fresh start after turbulent years at Old Trafford.

However, a deal with Juventus faces yet another hurdle.

According to Daily Mail’s report, the Serie A giants are unwilling to cover even half of Sancho’s £275,000-a-week wages.

An obstacle which will come as an annoyance to Sancho and United fans, considering Juventus are believed to be happy with the fee to United and other terms considered.

Sancho is understood to be open to the idea of lowering his wages, however less than half of his current amount may be too much of an ask.

Juve have floated the idea of including players like Douglas Luiz and Dusan Vlahovic in an exchange to ease the financial burden.

However, United have yet to be convinced.

The situation emphasises the broader issue Manchester United face in shifting high earners this summer.

It’s not just Sancho who the Red Devils need to sell on extensive wages.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho are all wanted to be sold too.

Let alone Rasmus Hojlund who the club are looking to sell on a ‘cut-price deal.’
