Fabrizio Romano shares major Anthony Elanga update as Newcastle United make fresh bid

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle United are back in for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga after their initial bid was rejected last month.

The 23-year-old is widely recognised as Eddie Howe’s top target at right wing, and it looks like the Magpies are not stopping after their initial £45m bid was rejected in June.

Newcastle United are looking to be active in the summer transfer window, but have found no luck so far. It was reported that Joao Pedro rejected Newcastle for Chelsea, a move which has since been confirmed in the last couple of days.

Anthony Elanga had a sensational season with Nottingham Forest, registering 17 goal involvements to help Nuno Espirito Santo’s side qualify for the Conference League. However, it could be Champions League football that the Sweden international is playing next season if this net approach is accepted.

It is evident that Newcastle need a new right-winger following the departures of their useful squad players, leaving just Jacob Murphy as Howe’s only option.

With talks ramping up, Fabrizio Romano has shared a huge new update on the deal, which could see it done very soon.

Newcastle United make £55m bid for Anthony Elanga

Newcastle’s £45m bid was believed to be nowhere near enough for Elanga, but now they could have just done enough for an offer to be accepted.

First reported by Romano, Newcastle have made a £55m bid for Elanga. It is believed that Forest are looking for £60m for the winger, but this new offer could be enough to get the deal done.

Romano adds that negotiations are underway with Newcastle, who are now pushing to get it done. Additionally, Craig Hope of the Daily Mail has stated that personal terms should not be an issue with the player.

Hope also states that talks have continued on Thursday night, so Newcastle are very keen to get the deal done.

Significant progress has been made on the deal, but they must be wary that Aston Villa are interested in Elanga. However, this new offer could see Forest’s head turn and prioritise a deal with the Magpies.

Anthony Elanga seen with a Newcastle United player amid fresh bid

It comes as no surprise that Elanga has his friends throughout the Premier League. In joining Newcastle, Elanga would be linking up with Alexander Isak, his international teammate. The 23-year-old has a great partnership with his fellow Swede, so Howe will have a devastating attack at his disposal if he joins.

Additionally, Elanga is great friends with William Osula. The pair frequently comment on each other’s social media posts and appears to be inseparable in the off-season.

On Tuesday, Osula posted a video dancing with Elanga, sending both Newcastle and Forest fans into meltdown. Forest fans think Newcastle should pay more for Elanga; those messages have clearly been heard, and Howe has reacted.

Should Elanga sign, it is likely that he will become Newcastle’s starting right-winger for the foreseeable future. The deal will also surely give Newcastle a better chance of being competitive in the Champions League next season.
