Daniel Farke needs to hear what Frank Lampard has said about £45m star offered to Leeds United - opinion

Daniel Farke will be encouraged by something Frank Lampard has said, as he can, for once, benefit Leeds United.

Leeds will be weighing up their options in all different positions this summer.

July is expected to be non-stop when it comes to transfers as Farke and the 49ers look set to build on the three new arrivals.

After the additions of Sebastiaan Bornauw and Jaka Bijol, you’d expect centre-back signings will be at least minimal, with attacking options needed.

Leeds could sign Timothy Weah for £13m to fulfil this need but it seems as though Farke might not be done with defensive target and Lampard is a big fan.

What Frank Lampard said about Ben Chilwell as he’s offered to Leeds United

With Junior Firpo’s exit confirmed it was an emotional one for the left-back who departs after four seasons at Elland Road.

It will be difficult to replace the defender after being one of the more consistent players in Farke’s side from last season, and from an attacking sense, was involved in 14 goals.

Finding a replacement for these 14 goals will be difficult, but with Ben Chilwell being offered to Leeds, the Englishman could be the answer.

Going from this, Farke will be intrigued to hear what Lampard said about the 28-year-old.

Speaking in October 2020, in a post-match press conference to Chelsea beating Burnley 3-0, Lampard said: “An important part of how I want us to play is involving our full-backs in an offensive sense and I’m not taking anything away from him defensively.

“I thought him and Reece [James] today perfectly found their moments to get involved and join in in high areas of the pitch, perfectly covered their positions to get ready for second balls with what was coming at us today.

“Part of the reason for bringing Chilly to the club was to bring that. He covers a lot of high intensity, distance in games, where he’s joining high up the pitch.”

Unfortunately due to injuries, Chilwell hasn’t quite lived up to his potential.

Mauricio Pochettino said Chilwell was the world’s best, giving insight to how good he can be.

Of course, it hasn’t quite worked out for him, spending last season on loan at Crystal Palace, but Leeds can rediscover Chilwell’s true form.

By bringing this version back, Farke can take Lampard’s comments into his own system.

With him being ‘high intensity’, this is what Farke demands off his full-backs, and from an attacking sense, the left-back is perfect, having previously notched up eight goal involvements in the 20/21 season, where Lampard praised him with his ability to provide in an ‘offensive sense’.

Farke was known to have attacking full-backs and will look to continue this set-up, as Chilwell can provide the ‘important’ part of the Leeds boss’ plan like he did for Lampard at Chelsea in 2020.
