Former Falcon WR Says Michael Penix Jr. Resembles Matthew Stafford

A former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver has stated that he and the coaching staff believe Michael Penix Jr. bears a resemblance to Matthew Stafford.

Former Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas recently stated that he thinks Michael Penix Jr. reminds the Falcons of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford on his show, Get Up.

Douglas would say, “I think one of the things that really alerted this coaching staff to draft him is that he reminded them of Matthew Stafford. He has this entire offseason to be the number one guy. If they can get Kyle Pitts to buy in, this will be a scary offense."

Falcons fans are excited to see what the future holds for Atlanta. The excitement surrounding the team is primarily due to Michael Penix Jr. being named the starting quarterback to begin the 2025 season. League officials must have been excited about what he can do as well, by giving the Falcons several primetime games.

A re-tooled defense, drama at the quarterback position (at least to the public's untrained eye), and a deep draft class, as well as some intriguing UDFA's, make for some great storylines that have yet to be written.

Douglas also believes that Penix Jr. and Pitts have already developed chemistry that could propel them into the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Pitts comes into the season needing to have a very productive year, being that it is a contract year.

Whether he remains with the Atlanta Falcons after this season will be dependent on whether the targets are there for him to showcase his "generational talent" label when coming out of the University of Florida.
