Aston Villa are planning to accept offers for Matty Cash and will use the funds to sign a replacement, according to their former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Sunderland and remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that Unai Emery has given the green light for the 27-year-old’s exit.

Meanwhile, work has already begun behind the scenes to identify potential replacements at right-back, which has become a key target at Villa Park.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 June that Aston Villa want to sell Cash, but his £100,000 weekly wages are putting clubs off.

A number of Premier League clubs are believed to have enquired about his availability but have not been tempted to make a formal offer yet.

Brown told Football Insider in October that Villa staff have concerns about Cash which have lingered since before his £14million arrival from Nottingham Forest in 2020.

Aston Villa plan to sell Matty Cash and sign new right-back

Brown told Football Insider in April that Villa are planning to sign a right-back to replace Cash as they feel they can significantly improve in his position.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted

“Villa are looking to sell Matty Cash this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s an honest professional and he’s done well over his time at Villa, but they don’t think he’s good enough for the level they want to play at.

“They’re still building the side, looking at each position and seeing if they can improve.

“The manager wants to improve at right-back, and they’ll use money from selling Cash to do it.

“It could be a busy summer at Villa because there are a few players being linked with moves away, but he’s one they’ve been looking to move on for a while.”

Jacob Ramsey update emerges amid Tottenham interest

Cash is not the only player being linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer amid ongoing speculation surrounding the future of Jacob Ramsey.

Brown told Football Insider on 2 July that Tottenham are interested in signing Ramsey and have made contact with his agent about a potential deal.

Thomas Frank is believed to be a big fan of the midfielder, while he has been a long-term target for Spurs’ recruitment team who have been tracking him all season.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Villa will accept big offers for Ramsey as Emery is uncertain about where he features in his plans for the future.
