'Word coming out is that': What Newcastle and Forest sources are saying about Anthony Elanga talks this evening

TBR Football can exclusively confirm the latest involving Newcastle United’s talks over Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

The Magpies are actively working to bolster their squad after qualifying for the Champions League on the final day of last season.

Although Newcastle fell short in their pursuit of Joao Pedro, they’re now making good progress in pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Elanga.

TBR Football can reveal what sources from both Forest and Newcastle are saying about their talks over the Sweden international.

Nottingham Forest want over £60million for Anthony Elanga as Newcastle growing in confidence

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Forest will accept a bid for Anthony Elanga, as long as it goes beyond £60million with bonuses.

Newcastle had a £45million bid turned down for Elanga last week – but they’ve upped their offer significantly.

Meanwhile, Magpies sources have confirmed that they are growing in confidence over striking a deal and that a breakthrough is getting close.

“Newcastle have upped their offer significantly, they feel this really shows to the player how wanted he is,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“Elanga has always been on Newcastle’s radar after they tried to sign him last summer and Eddie Howe feels he would be a very good fit.

“I am told that the player is not unhappy at Nottingham Forest, but the chance to move to St James’ Park does appeal to him.

“Newcastle sources confirm the club are now growing in confidence and the word coming out is that they think this one is close.”

What Alexander Isak has said to Anthony Elanga about Newcastle

Signing Elanga would see him link with fellow countryman Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s star striker.

The two players have taken to the pitch 12 times for their nation.

Elanga previously admitted that Isak had spoken to him about a potential move to Newcastle.

“The environment in Nottingham is good,” he told Fotboll Skanalen.

“It is clear that you can see that Newcastle are interested, it means that I am playing good football when a big club shows interest.

“But Nottingham is also a big club, they have won two Champions Leagues, even though it was before I was born. But I’m happy in Nottingham and have a contract there.

“I’m focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we’ll see what happens. Isak talked to me about it.

But I said the same to him as I say to you. We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together. But I have a contract with Nottingham.”
