Man Utd run into familiar Jadon Sancho problem as Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces paying millions

There’s a feeling of deja vu for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Manchester United, who face a familiar problem when it comes to Jadon Sancho this summer. The winger, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2021, has fallen out of favour at United and is expected to move on this summer.

Having initially been frozen out by Erik ten Hag, Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, before spending the majority of the 2024/25 campaign at Chelsea. However, it proved a costly loan spell for United, who were forced into covering just under half of Sancho’s reported £300,000 wage.

History could be about to repeat itself though, with clubs being put off by Sancho’s current wage demands. Juventus are the latest name to be linked to the ex-Manchester City starlet, but it’s claimed by The Daily Mail that the Old Lady wouldn’t be willing to pay more than half of his salary, be that via a permanent transfer or a loan deal.

As such, it could end up costing United as much as £5million for the season, should they have to fork out half of his salary yet again. That hasn’t stopped Juventus from trying to lure Sancho to Turin though, with the same outlet claiming both Douglas Luiz and Dusan Vlahovic have been offered in exchange.

Dortmund, who offered Sancho refuge when exiled by Ten Hag two years ago, are also rumoured to be keen on bringing the 25-year-old back to Germany. The Bundesliga outfit are set to wave farewell to Jamie Gittens this summer, with the youngster joining Chelsea as Sancho’s replacement.

Elsewhere, Alejandro Garnacho is another Red Devils ace tipped to depart this window, having reportedly been told he’s surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim. Garnacho was an outspoken critic of Amorim’s following United’s Europa League final defeat, with the Argentine criticising the decision to leave him on the bench against Tottenham.

The winger went on to upset the United faithful even more when he was snapped wearing a Marcus Rashford Aston Villa shirt while on holiday. It’s a stunt that has been blasted by former United ace Louis Saha, who claimed ex-players like Roy Keane would’ve ripped Garnacho to shreds.

Speaking to Coin Poker, Saha stated: “Back in my day, I think Roy would have welcomed Garnacho back to the training ground with a few crunching tackles to help him understand what he thought of him. I can’t say for sure, but I really doubt Keane will agree with what Garnacho did.

“It’s the type of things we see from new generations. To be honest, I can’t only blame Garnacho. The way the squad has been built, it’s why Garnacho thinks he has the right to do something like this, why he thinks he can make stupid comments and say things on social media. He thinks he’s going to get something out of it, and right now, United are the club who are giving him the platform to act this way.”
