Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders are getting new threads. The team confirmed Wednesday that it would unveil a new alternate uniform on July 9.
The exact nature of the uniforms has been kept under wraps, but fans have lobbied for a return to the color scheme and theming the franchise used when it was known as the Redskins.
Wednesday’s teaser squashed some of those hopes, as a silhouette posted on the team’s social media accounts still featured the “W” Commanders logo on the helmet.
Fans can still hold out hope for a return to the classic burgundy jerseys with white and gold stripes on the sleeves, though. Team owner Josh Harris has said this offseason that the franchise will embrace its history, though a name change was still off the table.
The team has not shied away from posting photos and videos of the old name and logo on its social channels this year.
“You’re going to see us head back towards honoring our past and bringing it together with our future,” Mr. Harris said in February.
The Commanders have not said whether the addition of a new alternate uniform would replace the current “Battle Blacks” that the team has worn as a third option since 2022.
