One of the more intriguing names on the NBA free agent market right now is longtime veteran and nine-time All-Star Damian Lillard, who was unexpectedly waived by the Milwaukee Bucks.
In a move to create cap flexibility amid their pursuit of Myles Turner, the Bucks not only waived Lillard but also stretched the remainder of his contract over the next five seasons — meaning Milwaukee will pay him approximately $22 million annually, even as he plays elsewhere.
Lillard's final moment with the Bucks was an unfortunate one, as he tore his Achilles during their first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers. While he’s drawn interest from several teams, he’s not expected to see significant — if any — playing time next season as he rehabs from the injury.
On Thursday evening, Lillard broke his silence with a bold message on X, writing: “If they call it a ‘gamble’ at this stage… tell ‘em this the jackpot. #ToBeContinued.”
According to Chris Haynes, Damian Lillard is reportedly open to signing with a team this offseason — under the right terms and conditions. However, he’s in no rush to make a decision, despite drawing significant interest across the league.
Several teams have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 34-year-old, including the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets.
Still, no destination can be ruled out just yet, as there are a number of teams that could make sense as a landing spot — whether to sign and stash Lillard for a potential playoff return or to prepare for the 2026–27 season.

Lillard has cemented himself as a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest pure offensive talents the game has ever seen.
Over 900 career games, he’s averaged 25.1 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. A seven-time All-NBA selection, Lillard spent 11 of his 13 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before playing the last two with the Bucks.
