Aston Villa forward Louie Barry’s touted move to Hull City looks set to collapse after the Championship side were handed a transfer ban.
It had been reported that the 22-year-old was closing in on a £3.5m move to Hull this summer with a sell-on clause said to have been included in the agreement, with the Villa forward spending a brief spell on loan at the club last season.

While talk of the potential move went quiet in the days that followed, The Athletic now report that Hull have been given a three-window EFL transfer ban over financial issues, and that seemingly now looks set to scupper our hopes of selling Barry to them in a permanent exit.
Further, it’s added that the Championship outfit still owe Villa money from the loan fee and wages from his switch last season, and so it remains to be seen when those payments are made to at least receive what we’re already due.
It’s unclear at this stage as to whether or not there is interest from elsewhere in signing Barry outright this summer, and so time will tell what’s next for the talented youngster after a string of impressive loan spells have allowed him to showcase his quality and potential, albeit he has seen his progress disrupted by injuries along the way.
With his path into the Villa first-team blocked by top-class competition for places and depth in the attacking third under Unai Emery already, it’s difficult to see a way forward for Barry at the club, while he’s surely had his fair share of loan moves now and needs a permanent home to settle and play his best football.
Ideally, another opportunity at a high level will present itself to give him that chance to play regularly and develop his game to become the player he’s capable of being, but based on the report above, it looks as though Villa will now have to wait and see if any alternative suitable offers come in to begin discussions with other clubs over a possible deal this summer, as Hull may not be in a position to sign anyone in this window or the two that follow.
