Man Utd to pocket millions thanks to Premier League rival's transfer as 'deal agreed'

However, Amorim’s transfer fund is now set to be boosted by Newcastle’s bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Anthony Elanga. According to the Daily Mail, the north east outfit are closing in on a deal after offering £55million for the Swedish international.

Elanga, 23, left United for Forest two years ago in a £15m move. Having come through the youth ranks at Carrington, he’d previously been highly rated by the club before being deemed surplus to requirements by ex-manager Erik ten Hag.

However, not before United had reportedly inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause into their deal with Forest. If his sale to Newcastle goes through, that means United will receive an £8m payment.

Elanga made 82 appearances in two seasons for Forest, scoring 11 times. He was considered integral to their push for the Champions League last season, a competition he’ll be able to play in if he makes his move.

In April, he came back to haunt his former club with a stunning individual goal in Forest’s 1-0 win over the Red Devils. He refused to celebrate the strike, later citing respect for his old side’s role in his development.

This development follows United’s second bid, worth £62.5m, for Mbeumo being rejected. They’ve also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
