Hidden clause in £55m Anthony Elanga deal - Newcastle United to give rival Psr boost

Newcastle United are close to agreeing a deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle United will hand Manchester United a £5.5million boost to their PSR coffers should Anthony Elanga arrive at St James’ Park.

News broke last night that the Magpies are closing in on a £55million deal for their long-term target. Toon chiefs have pursued Elanga since last summer when Nottingham Forest rejected a desperate deadline-day deal.

The offer a year ago was understood to be worth around £35million - with the Swede going on to enjoy his best campaign as a professional. Elanga helped Forest secure European football with 17 Premier League goal contributions.

Newcastle United close to breakthrough

The Daily Mail claim Newcastle are close to a breakthrough following a frustrating start to the window. Significant progress has been made in negotiations despite Aston Villa entering the fray.

Elanga is thought to be keen on a Tyneside move and has even hung out with Toon youngster Will Osula in recent days. Other subtle hints include a Newcastle jersey being worn by a friend in a picture he uploaded on social media.

Manchester United sell-on clause

Man United are set to net a tidy windfall should Newcastle sign Elanga. Forest bought the 23-year-old from the Red Devils for £15million two years ago.

Old Trafford bosses inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause for any profit made on the player in future transfers. For example, if Newcastle pay £55million, Man United would bank just shy of £5.5million.

The Red Devils are known to be opening under tight financial parameters after missing out on Champions League football. They are also hamstrung by several big hitters like Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford being reluctant to find new clubs.

Anthony Elanga on exit

Speaking to Swedish media, Elanga stayed coy on the speculation regarding his future. He said: “There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.

“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match, I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do.”
