Newcastle United were right all along about Anthony Elanga

It was reported in late June that Newcastle were launching a triple bid for Elanga, Joao Pedro and James Trafford. At the time, Elanga felt like the least likely to arrive at St James’ Park.

However, Pedro has gone to Chelsea, while Newcastle’s pursuit of Trafford is rumbling on. It was claimed at the start of the week that Trafford to Newcastle was close, but a deal is yet to be finalised.

Suddenly it is Elanga who appears to be the closest to joining Eddie Howe’s Magpies, with Newcastle on course to be proven right about the Sweden international.

After the opening offer was swiftly rejected, Geordie Boot Boys reported that Newcastle believed Elanga wanted to join them. That belief from inside St James’ Park appears to have been correct, with personal terms now close to being agreed.

Every aspect of this deal appears to be heading in the direction that Newcastle United want, as Howe closes in on his first major signing for two years.
