Spurs value Real Madrid target at £60 million

Thomas Frank will take charge of Tottenham Hotspur for the first time when they face EFL side Reading in a pre-season friendly against Reading on July 19.

The Dane took charge of the Lilywhites last month, succeeding Ange Postecoglou who was sacked just weeks after winning the Europa League and ending Spurs’ 17-year wait for silverware.

Frank left his role at fellow London side Brentford to take charge of Tottenham, who will compete in the Champions League next season following their Europa League triumph.

Away from the action, it appears that two of Europe’s biggest sides are chasing one of Spurs’ most important players.

As reported by CaughtOffside, both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are showing interest in centre-back Cristian Romero.

The 27-year-old joined the Lilywhites on loan from Italian side Atalanta in 2021 and made the move permanent the following year after impressing in North London.

He has now played more than 120 times for the club across all competitions, becoming a crucial component of Spurs’ back line.

Despite significant interest from clubs in La Liga, the report claim that Tottenham currently value the defender at around £60 million.

This price tag is deemed by both Atletico and Real as being too expensive, with the former valuing the player at almost 50% lower than the asking price.

Atletico are said to be willing to enter into direct negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in an effort to reach an agreement.

Their inter-city rivals Real are also now said to be plotting a more formal approach for the centre-back, who the report clams could be interested in the proposed move.

While the Argentine is said to be happy at his current club, it is also suggested that he could be tempted by the idea of a move to Real Madrid.

Romero’s current contract with the North London side is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
