Man Utd are set to receive a timely boost in the summer transfer window amid their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United could receive as much as £6 million from the proposed sale of former player Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United. The 23-year-old has been identified as a top target for Eddie Howe's side this summer and was subject of a revised £55m bid this week.
Taking to social media, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed an agreement was close on the proposed transfer. "Newcastle have sent £55m bid to Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga today," he said. "Negotiations underway with #NUFC now pushing to get it done. He added: "More on Newcastle and Anthony Elanga exclusive story. Club optimistic to get final green light from Nottingham Forest after £55m bid revealed tonight. Personal terms also close to being agreed as #NUFC want to get it done as soon as possible."
The final payment structure of the deal will have a bearing on how much money United receives, with their sell-on clause based on the overall profit Forest makes from the sale.

Manchester United could receive roughly £6m
Manchester United included a sell-on clause in the deal that saw Anthony Elanga join Nottingham Forest for £15 million two years ago. The 23-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Erik ten Hag and was told he was free to find a new club as he searched for regular playing time.
A few eyebrows were raised at the decision to join Forest, but it has proved to be a masterstroke. Elanga featured in every one of their Premier League matches last season, scoring six goals and notching 11 assists, as they finished seventh and secured qualification for the Conference League.
United never disclosed the specifics of the sell-on clause, but it is understood to be worth 15 percent of any profit made. It means if Newcastle sign Elanga for the proposed £55m fee, United would be entitled to a share of the £40m difference when you subtract the cost of signing him, rather than the overall deal. It would equate to a fee in the region of £5.25m to £6m, depending on how much Newcastle pay upfront.
United have aimed to become smarter with sales in recent years and have been prepared to allow players to leave for reasonable transfer fees, with the real value represented by various sell-on clauses included in the deals. It means that even though some players have left for relatively cheap initial fees, they could hand United a huge financial boost further down the line once they are sold again.
The extra transfer revenue will come as a welcome boost to United in their pursuit of Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo and will also help them fund a move for a striker this summer.
