Man Utd’s pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund alternative takes fresh twist over ‘potential deal,’ Ruben Amorim could face battle

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim faces the risk of missing out on a transfer target who could replace Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.

Rasmus Hojlund’s future at Manchester United remains shrouded in mystery and the 22-year-old Danish forward struggled during his second full season at Old Trafford.

The Denmark and United striker only found the back of the net 10 times in 52 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 campaign.

Inter Milan have been linked with Hojlund and the Denmark international could make his exit from Old Trafford after a lacklustre season with the Red Devils.

Hojlund is under contract with United until 2028 and the Red Devils splashed out a hefty £72m to sign him for Erik ten Hag from Serie A side Atalanta in 2023.

Ruben Amorim has been tipped to sign a new striker this summer and the Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

Man Utd now face rival challenge for Ollie Watkins amid Aston Villa striker being a potential replacement for Rasmus Hojlund

Ollie Watkins has attracted Manchester United’s interest again after the Red Devils reportedly included the Aston Villa star on a list of replacements for Rasmus Hojlund.

The 29-year-old Aston Villa striker is under contract with the Premier League club until 2028 and could leave Villa Park if the ‘right’ offer is tabled for him this summer.

Ollie Watkins netted 17 times and registered 14 assists with Villa in 54 matches across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign under manager Unai Emery.

According to GiveMeSport, both United and Arsenal have ‘made fresh contact via intermediaries’ over a potential deal to sign England star Watkins from Villa.

The publication added that the Gunners have reignited their interest in the Villa forward only six months after they had a £40m bid rejected for the player.

Arsenal, much like United, are believed to be keen to add a new striker to their first-team squad ahead of the Gunners’ 2025-26 campaign under manager Mikel Arteta.

United-linked Viktor Gyokeres has attracted Arsenal’s interest and the Gunners are believed to be in the race to sign the 27-year-old Sporting CP striker this summer.

Arsenal have also been linked with 22-year-old RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, who is being valued between £68.4m and £85.5m amid the Gunners’ interest.

Gyokeres also has a release clause of £85.1m, but GiveMeSport reports that Arsenal could turn their attention away from the player and Sesko for United target Watkins.

United have ‘made fresh contact’ over a ‘potential deal’ for Watkins, but Arsenal could ‘revisit a move’ for the player if they fail to sign Benjamin Sesko or Gyokeres.
