The body arrived from Nairobi on Thursday, July 3, with angry residents venting their frustration at the police.
A video from Albert Ojwang’s funeral procession captured a dramatic moment when mourners confronted the police escorting his body.
A police vehicle, lights flashing, was part of the convoy but was soon blocked by agitated youths who demanded that the officers leave. The police vehicle veered off and exited the procession, as the crowd made it clear that their presence was unwelcome.
What happened at Albert Ojwang's mass?
Footage from the requiem mass on Friday, July 4, showed that thousands of mourners showed up to pay tribute to Ojwang.
A photo from the burial showed the casket placed atop a table. The brown casket featured golden handles for carrying it.
A red carpet was laid on the floor of the tent where the body was placed. A Kenyan flag was laid atop the coffin, and a wreath was placed on top of it.
Albert was a diehard football fan, and his club was well represented. A Manchester United flag was also laid on the casket, and a mourner with a Red Devils jersey was spotted nearby.
A photo of the teacher was placed at the head of the casket with the message:
"Forever in our hearts. Celebrating the life of Albert Ojwang."
The requiem mass was highly charged, as numerous mourners shouted in pain while the guests addressed them at Kakwonyo Village.
Pwani University members spoke at the burial and urged the government to stem extrajudicial killings.
"Stop killing us," they declared.
They urged albert not to rest, while declaring that they would not allow similar deaths to occur.
The comrades further called for Eliud Lagat's resignation.

In other news, while en route to the village with his son’s body, Meshack Opiyo, Ojwang’s father, was heartbroken.
A video captured him seated in the hearse beside his wife, pleading with the crowd not to remove the casket.
Despite his emotional appeal, the determined protesters, mainly students, proceeded to carry the body to a nearby police station.
