Ex-Leeds United and Swansea City star Andy Robinson has been hospitalised following a heart attack. The former winger was admitted to hospital on Thursday afternoon after falling ill earlier yesterday.
Robinson, aged 45, is well remembered for his five-year stint with Swansea from 2003 to 2008, during which the club celebrated two promotions, before he joined Leeds. His career also included time at Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Stockport County, and Ammanford, where he teamed up with ex-colleague Lee Trundle, and later played for Rock Ferry Social.
The Swans icon has stayed connected to the game, taking on a pundit role for BBC Sport Wales post-retirement. Swansea City were the first to share the concerning news.
"Swansea City is wishing the club's former player Andy Robinson a full and speedy recovery after suffering a heart attack earlier today," they expressed via social media.
"Andy is currently in a stable condition in hospital. We're all with you Robbo.", reports the Mirror.
Leeds also conveyed their support: "Now in a stable condition, everyone at #LUFC wishes former player Andy Robinson a speedy recovery, after he suffered a heart attack earlier today."
Tranmere Rovers added their well-wishes: "Everyone at Tranmere Rovers wishes our former player Andy Robinson a speedy recovery after he suffered a heart attack this morning. "He's now in a stable condition in hospital. All the best, Robbo."
Robinson, a key figure in Swansea's history, made 226 appearances and netted 54 goals for the club. His contributions were instrumental in securing Swansea's promotion from League Two in the 2004/05 season, their last at Vetch Field.
Robinson also holds the distinction of being the final player to score at Vetch Field, with his goal clinching victory for Swansea in the FAW Premier Cup final against Wrexham.
The club icon continued to make his mark by helping Swansea lift the Football League Trophy in 2006 and playing a pivotal role under manager Roberto Martinez. Robinson was a driving force behind Swansea's triumphant League One campaign in the 2007/08 season.
However, Robinson bid farewell to Swansea that summer to join United, but missed out on Championship football. Despite accepting an offer from the Yorkshire side, Leeds fell short in the play-off final against Doncaster, resulting in another season in League One.
Injury woes marred Robinson's first season with Leeds, where he made 50 appearances during a challenging period. After two loan stints at Tranmere Rovers, he made a permanent move to Prenton Park in 2011. He clocked up over 100 appearances and scored 19 goals for the Wirral-based club.
