According to local media, the funeral services for Portuguese footballers Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. local time in Gondomar, the town near Porto where Jota began his career.
Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, the main church in the city, will host the ceremony, and the bodies will later be laid to rest in the local cemetery. A wake will be held the day before, Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the church’s funeral chapel.
The story of both brothers is forever linked with the town of Gondomar. Diogo Jota came up through the youth ranks of Gondomar and Paços de Ferreira, achieving his breakthrough with a move to Atlético de Madrid in 2016. Even though he never played for _Los Colchoneros_, loan moves to FC Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers would elevate his profile, culminating in a move to [Liverpool FC](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com) in 2020.
His brother André Silva also began playing football at Gondomar before joining Porto’s youth setup in 2011. Both brothers would play for Porto when Diogo joined the club on loan in 2016. During that stint, André was also loaned to Porto’s satellite club, Padroense, where he played alongside prominent Portuguese peers Vitinha and Fábio Vieira. Stints at Paços de Ferreira, Famalicão, and Boavista at youth level followed, before returning to Gondomar in 2021 as a senior footballer. He played for Futebol Clube Penafiel, a second division side in Portugal, for the last two seasons.
