Man Utd's transfer position is clear for midfield talent who could replace Casemiro,£9m release clause is active

Manchester United have reportedly made their transfer position clear in their pursuit of a potential midfield replacement for former Real Madrid star Casemiro this summer.

Casemiro enjoyed the second half of the 2024-25 season at Old Trafford under Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim after undergoing a resurgence in form.

The 33-year-old Manchester United and Brazil midfielder became an influential figure for Ruben Amorim during the Red Devils’ Europa League run last season.

Casemiro netted twice and registered three assists in 13 matches in the 2024-25 Europa League season, with United falling short to Tottenham in the final in May.

The Brazil international featured in 42 matches across all competitions last season for United and Casemiro found the back of the net five times for his side.

Casemiro is under contract with United until 2026 and the former Real Madrid star will be free to walk from Old Trafford next summer as a free agent.

Man Utd could have Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi be Casemiro’s long-term replacement at Old Trafford

Manchester United have been linked with Wilfred Ndidi after Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League under Red Devils legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Leicester City finished 18th in the Premier League table in the 2024-25 campaign and the Foxes will return to the Championship for the 2025-26 season.

However, the Foxes face a real test in keeping hold of Wilfred Ndidi this summer, with the Nigerian defensive midfielder’s release clause becoming active.

Ndidi is under contract with Leicester until 2027, but the Nigeria international has a £9m relegation release clause in his current deal at the King Power Stadium.

The Leicester midfielder made 30 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions last season and Ndidi scored once and picked up five assists for his side.

According to GiveMeSport, United are among the likes of Everton, Juventus and Real Betis who are interested in signing Ndidi from Leicester this summer.

Man Utd’s transfer verdict on Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi is now made clear amid their need to replace Casemiro

GiveMeSport reports that the clubs that are reportedly interested in Wilfred Ndidi are trying to land the Foxes star for a discount price, despite his £9m release clause.

The publication added that the likes of United are ‘trying to do a deal for around £5m’ for the Nigeria and Leicester City midfielder this summer.

It is believed that clubs are trying to lower the transfer fee due to the ‘high wages’ that Ndidi would command as part of a transfer away from the King Power Stadium.

According to GiveMeSport, the deal would be ‘overall’ more ‘expensive’ for a club if they met the £9m release clause and then paid Ndidi’s wages on top of that.
