Former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze is set to join Arsenal’s coaching staff as a replacement for new Parma head coach Carlos Cuesta, according to reports.

David Ornstein reports for The Athletic that Gabriel Heinze is joining Arsenal as part of the Gunners’ coaching staff.
Arsenal made the decision to add Heinze to their team after Carlos Cuesta left the club to become Parma’s new head coach, and Heinze will now work alongside Mikel Arteta’s other assistants Albert Stuivenberg, Nicolas Jover, and Inaki Cana.

Arsenal’s move for Heinze has been a long time in the making, with ESPN reporting in April 2024 that the former Manchester United player was in London to consider a move.
Fabrizio Romano reported at the time that Heinze has a very good relationship with some member’s of Arteta’s staff, and Romano now writes that the coach has accepted an offer to join the Gunners.
Following that initial failed attempt to bring him in last year, it’s reportedly now just a matter of time until the 47-year-old puts pen to paper.

Heinze garnered plenty of experience during his playing career, playing for European clubs Valladolid, Sporting CP, PSG, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Marseille, and AS Roma, as well as Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys.
The former defender was an Argentina international, making 71 appearances for the national team, and he’s gone on to manage 194 matches between five different teams, winning the Argentinian second division with Argentinos Juniors.
Yet this job will be Heinze’s first in Europe, with his coaching career so far involving roles in Argentina and the USA.
