On Thursday, 2 PM IST on the 3rd of July, devastating news broke from Spanish media claiming that a Lamborghini driven by Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva had crashed, resulting in the death of both driver and passenger.
It was later revealed that the pair of brothers were on their way back to Liverpool ahead of the pre-season camp on Monday. Emergency services rushed to the area of the crash, but there was nothing to be done as they were pronounced dead on the spot.
Jota’s death not only shook the world, but it prompted legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrew Robertson and former Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp to add a few words to honour the late Portuguese forward.
And now, the 28-year-old’s physiotherapist has spoken out to reveal the details of the player’s ongoing physiotherapy hours before the crash.
Jota's physiotherapy before the crash
While recovering from pneumothorax or a collapsed lung, respiratory physiotherapist Miguel Goncalves had been working with Jota as he recovered.
Despite winning the Premier League with Liverpool and the Nations League with Portugal, Jota played through the pain caused by the condition. So, as a part of recovery, Jota was working with Goncalves in a rehab session.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet Record, Goncalves revealed: "I said goodbye to him and his brother, Andre, at around 8:30 PM.
“His brother was a great companion and decided to go with him, to accompany him on the trip, and that way they would also spend more time together,” he was quoted as saying by SportsBible.
"He told me that the journey would take about eight hours, but that they would stop at a hotel in the Burgos area to rest. They were only supposed to arrive in Santander today, catch the boat and then go to England.
"The family would arrive later by plane, organise their lives over the weekend and then, on Monday, they had a medical appointment scheduled in Liverpool to assess the situation."
