Manchester United have confirmed that experienced striker Rachel Williams has signed a contract extension to remain at the club until 2026.
Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022, the 37-year-old has been a trusted attacking option for Marc Skinner.
Across all competitions, Williams has now clocked 79 appearances and netted 21 goals, her most memorable coming against Chelsea in the 2023/24 FA Cup semi‑final to book United’s spot in the showpiece final at Wembley - a match the Red Devils went on to win to secure the club’s first major women’s trophy.
Often utilised off the bench in recent seasons, Williams has earned a reputation as a genuine “super‑sub,” capable of turning matches on their head within minutes of entering play.
Last campaign she further cemented that tag when she struck twice in the closing stages of an FA Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion - her quick‑fire brace contributing to an astonishing six‑goal salvo in the final 15 minutes and demonstrating her undiminished scoring instinct.
William's ability find space in congested penalty areas and execute clinical finishes continues to make her a unique asset in United's attacking arsenal.
On extending her stay at the club, Williams said, "“I am delighted to be continuing at Manchester United.
"The growth we have seen over the last few years has been great to be a part of and I look forward to lending my experience to this exciting squad and continuing to play my part in the squad.”
Director of Women’s Football Matt Johnson stressed the importance of blending youth with proven leadership, something Williams provides in abundance. He said, “We have a young exciting squad which needs to be balanced with experience and leadership.
"Rachel makes a significant impact on and off the pitch and embodies the squad’s togetherness and hardworking spirit.”
Johnson’s remarks point to Williams’ role beyond goal‑scoring - her influence in training, her guidance to rising talents within the squad and her presence in the dressing room all contribute to the tight-knit unity that has become a hallmark of United’s approach.
With Williams’ services now secured for a further season, United can count on her decisive contributions - and her steadying influence in the dressing room - as they seek to build on their third‑place finish in the Women’s Super League.
As the club continue to challenge on multiple fronts, Williams’ experience and proven pedigree give Skinner a reliable option whenever the contest demands a proven match‑winner.
