Mohamed Salah has posted a heartfelt message following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
The pair, like most in the Liverpool squad, enjoyed a close relationship with Jota, and Salah has become the latest Liverpool player to send share his grief and commemorate the 28-year-old.
In a post on social media, Salah said the news made him "frightened" to return to return to the club and vowed that Jota "will never be forgotten".
"I am truly lost for words," he said in a post on X. "Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break.
"Team mates come and go but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.
"My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten."
The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson also posted messages after Jota's passing, as did former players such as Caoimhin Kelleher, Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino.
All figures frm the world of soccer paid their respects, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Meanwhile, fans made their way to Anfield on Thursday to pay respect to Jota, leaving flowers, shirts and other mementos outside the ground.
Liverpool has opened a book of condolence for supporters to sign at Anfield, while an online version has also been made available.
Jota died tragically in the early hours of Thursday morning while travelling through norther Spain. A tyre in his car is understood to have blown out, with the vehicle veering off the road and crashing. It subsequently caught fire, and Jota and his borther, Andre Silva, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Jota's wake is set to be held in his home town of Gondomar on Friday, before the funeral takes place on Saturday.
As a sign of respect, Uefa and Fifa have confirmed they will hold a minute's silence before matches at the women's Euro 2025, and the Club World Cup. In the former, Jota's name was chanted by Portugal fans during the country's game against Spain on Thursday.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed Pedro Neto will be allowed to choose whether he will take part in the club's Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras. The winger played with Jota at both club and international level.
