After the tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, an earlier interview has revealed just how much Liverpool meant to Diogo Jota.
The world of football has united in paying tribute to the two brothers. Everyone stands with Jota’s family, who are going through unimaginable grief after losing both sons in such a horrific way.
Jota has been married for just two weeks. This is going to be a very hard time for his wife as well.
Liverpool also paid tribute to him. The club announced they would immortalise his jersey number 20. In the club’s official statement, it read: “And what cruelly has proved to be his final flourish in football saw Jota become a Premier League champion and a UEFA Nations League winner.”
“The No.20 will be rightly immortalised for his contributions as part of Liverpool’s 2024-25 title-winners – the club’s 20th – with his trademark shimmy and strike in front of the Kop to seal victory in April’s Merseyside derby a poignant last goal of his life.”

What Liverpool meant to Diogo Jota
In an earlier interview, Jota was asked: If you could sum up what this club and maybe this city means to you?
He responded: “For me, it means everything, to be honest. It changed my life completely. My three kids were born here. I’ll always have a house here. I’ll always remember, in the future, even if I don’t live here, this city, this club, the way everybody supports me from the very first day – in the club, among the fans.”
“And I truly believe it’s hard to be in such a good position like I am as a player at the moment, and I’m really grateful for that – to all of the people in the club and to all of the fans for making this happen.”
Liverpool also lowered the club’s flag to half-mast and took other internal steps to honour his memory.
