Video: Diogo Jota's best three Liverpool goals as football world remembers the 'lad from Portugal'

Diogo Jota wasn’t just a great footballer; he was also an incredible person.

The footballing world was taken aback by the news that broke on Thursday morning, which shared that the Liverpool attacker and his brother, Andre Silva, had both passed away.

Jota had only just married his childhood sweetheart two weeks ago when his car reportedly veered off to the side of the road and then caught fire after his tyre popped.

Many messages of support have been sent from across the world, with his fans and teammates such as Darwin Nunez reflecting on the impact the Portugal international had on the world.

Diogo Jota slaloms his way through Everton’s defence

Jota’s last-ever goal for Liverpool was arguably one of his best.

It was vintage Jota, the attacker picked up the ball on the edge of Everton’s box after Luis Diaz coolly slotted a backpass towards the feet of the striker, who then took the ball past Abdoulaye Doucoure and wrong-footed Jarrad Branthwaite.

Not only was this a fitting way for his final goal to pan out, but it also showed how important he was to the team, as it ended up being the derby day winner.

Diogo Jota sends Arsenal defender Gabriel to the shops

For the last couple of seasons, Liverpool and Arsenal have become rivals, with both trying to fight Manchester City for the Premier League title.

However, back in 2021, Jota once again proved his worth when Jurgen Klopp’s men were taking on Arsenal.

At the start of the move, Trent Alexander-Arnold manages to lose the ball with an attack feeling impossible to pull off.

However, the pressure from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is enough for Nuno Mendes to make a mistake and pass the ball straight to Jota’s feet.

From then on, you knew what was going to happen. The striker picked the ball up and then sent Gabriel to the shops after he tried to block his shot with Jota then taking the ball around the keeper and slotting it into the back of the net.

Diogo Jota’s composure shines through after his chest and volley against Nottingham Forest

Last but certainly not least is the former Wolves man’s chest and volley to seal his brace against Nottingham Forest two seasons ago.

Alexander-Arnold sends a free-kick towards the box with Jota finding himself on the end of the inch-perfect pass.

He then takes the ball down on his chest, touches it with his knee and then sets himself up for a half-volley which goes straight into the back of the net.

Once again, it was vintage Jota and outlines why Jamie Carragher even called him the best finisher at the club.

Here’s to you, Diogo, you’ll forever be Liverpool’s number 20.
