Report: Arsenal eyeing move to hijack transfer for 'unbelievable' winger with deal agreed

Arsenal are showing keen interest in a summer move for Lyon winger Malick Fofana, journalist Miguel Delaney has claimed.

The Gunners, along with Bayern Munich, Leipzig and Napoli, are believed to have enquired about the promising Belgian winger, whose future in France looks uncertain this summer.

Lyon are said to be open to selling Fofana for at least €60m (£51.5m) amid their financial difficulties, which saw them demoted from Ligue 1 last month.

Although they have appealed the decision, sales need to be made to balance the books, and Fofana’s departure could bring in significant funds, as he is considered one of their most valuable assets.

According to Delaney, as many as five Premier League clubs are believed to be keeping close tabs on Fofana’s situation in France, as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have all made contact regarding the winger.

Forest are believed to have already agreed a fee with Lyon, but Fofana has yet to green-light the move, as he is waiting for approaches from Champions League clubs.

Fofana has enjoyed a promising season with Lyon following his arrival from Belgian side Gent last year, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in 62 appearances across all competitions.

The 'unbelievable' 20-year-old, praised as 'dynamite', also made his international debut for Belgium last year, coming off the bench in their 2-2 draw with Italy in October.

Arsenal’s summer transfer business has gathered pace in recent days, with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga becoming their first signing in a £5m deal from Chelsea.

The Gunners are also expected to announce deals for midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard soon, and remain in talks for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.
