Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot is believed to be edging closer to a move to the Premier League.

Thierno Barry’s arrival at Everton is imminent, and he looks set to become the Toffees’ second signing of the summer window.

Carlos Alcaraz was the first, after Everton opted to trigger the buy-clause in his contract, after an impressive loan spell in the Premier League.

Several more additions are expected, with it now reported that the Toffees hold an interest in French sensation Canvot.

Everton need to accelerate transfer plans as Canvot update emerges

It is believed that David Moyes has prioritised the signing of a right-back this summer, amid links to now-free agent Kyle Walker-Peters, though the Scotsman will want to see his side take advantage of any opportunity that emerges.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Now, according to reports from The Guardian (4 July), the Toffees hold an interest in signing Toulouse’s 18-year-old centre back Canvot, who has attracted interest after a breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1.

The teenager, who turns 19 at the end of the month, featured 18 times for the French outfit last season, but it is believed that Aston Villa are leading the race for his signature.

It’s claimed that a move to Villa Park is advancing, with Canvot now closing in on a Premier League switch this summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £17-20million.

Moyes needs to be backed by TFG

Since Moyes’ arrival, Everton have made significant progress on and off the pitch, though that will only continue if they recruit well this summer.

The additions made so far are solid, and recent links would certainly improve the team, but several more will be needed ahead of the Premier League campaign.

TFG face a huge task of giving Moyes the tools needed to succeed next season, with hopes of starting to push up the table after multiple seasons staring down the barrel of a relegation fight.
