NBA rumors: Miami Heat had recent discussions to trade for the worst contract in the NBA?

A surprising new NBA rumor claims the Miami Heat actually had recent discussions about trading for one of the worst contracts in league history.

There was a time when three-time All-Star Bradley Beal was one of the better guards in the game. However, more injuries and age have played a huge role in his decline as a player. Unfortunately, in 2022, the Washington Wizards gave him a massive five-year deal that will see the 13-year veteran make $53 million next season.

Beal is making superstar money but delivering role player stats at this point in his career. That, along with having one of just two no-trade clauses in the NBA (LeBron James has the other), makes it the worst contract in the league. And unsurprisingly, the Phoenix Suns have had an extremely difficult time trying to move him and his contract over the last year.

The assumption in recent months has been that Phoenix would have to buy Beal out if they hope to get some of that money off the books. However, according to The Stein Line, “The Suns and Heat had exploratory dialogue this week on a potential Bradley Beal trade.” Fortunately for Miami fans who will hate the idea, “talks ultimately collapsed.”

While discussions on a Beal trade didn’t go far, the Miami Heat still want to sign Beal if he gets bought out by his current team in the coming weeks.

“It is often written that a buyout for Beal could land in the $90 million range. How precise that media forecast proves remains to be seen, but there is no ambiguity here: The Heat will have interest in signing Beal if he can make it to unrestricted free agency,” The Stein Line reports.

The outlet also claims that Miami could be competing with the Bucks for Beal’s services whenever he hits the free-agent market.
