Jesse Derry is close to agreeing a deal with a Champions League club in Germany days after quitting Crystal Palace, sources have told Football Insider.

Derry, 17, who has starred for England at the Under-19 European Championship Finals this summer, allowed his contract at Selhurst Park to expire at the end of last month.

He has had offers from Premier League and top European clubs but has decided to accept a Bundesliga club contract, after holding talks with the Champions League club in question at the start of June.

Talks are at an advanced stage and a full agreement is expected to be settled soon.

Palace would only be due minimal compensation of around £300,000 if he moves abroad

Derry featured 20 times and scored nine goals for Palace‘s Under-18s and Under-21s sides last season.

Jerry Derry transfer close to conclusion after Bayern and Juventus interest

Football Insider revealed as far back as February that Derry was attracting attention from PSG, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, long before he came to a final decision over his Palace contract.

That decision came in early May as Derry made clear his intention to leave Selhurst Park and opened the door for talks with the Bundesliga giants which have now progressed to an advanced stage.

RB Leipzig‘s interest in Derry has been reported by Football Insider, but their seventh-placed finish leaves Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund and Bayern in the clear to sign him.

Crystal Palace set for season-defining UEFA decision

Derry’s departure for a meagre £300,000 deprives Glasner of the chance to utilise him in the Europa League next season, but Palace could yet be deprived of that opportunity altogether in the coming days.

John Textor’s hasty exit from Selhurst Park may have been confirmed on 2 July, but this may not be enough for UEFA to separate his involvement at Palace and ownership of Lyon ahead of the new season.

Lyon’s enforced relegation from Ligue 1 for breaching financial rules is subject to appeal, leaving Palace’s European adventure hanging by a thread as they wait for a final decision to be ratified by both the French football authorities and UEFA.
