Takehiro Tomiyasu departs Arsenal by mutual consent

Takehiro Tomiyasu has departed Arsenal after four years and 84 appearances for the club.

The 26-year-old has suffered numerous injuries during his time in North London, resulting in him playing just six minutes during the 2024/25 season.

Mikel Arteta’s side reached a mutual agreement to end the defender’s contract, meaning Tomiyasu is free to find a new club.

Tomiyasu's time at Arsenal

Tomiyasu, a Japanese international, joined Arsenal from Serie A side Bologna in 2021. In his first season at the club, he helped the Gunners finish in fifth place. He was part of a new-look defence that included the likes of Ben White at centre-back and Aaron Ramsdale as the goalkeeper.

The defender scored his final Arsenal goal in his final league start with a low-drilled effort against Everton at the Emirates Stadium in 2024. Tomiyasu’s first goal came against Sheffield United in a 5-0 win earlier in that campaign.

“From my first day at the Emirates to every moment wearing the red and white, it has truly been an honour to represent this badge”, said Tomiyasu via Instagram.

“After 4 unforgettable years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to this incredible club.

“Obviously, I have got many things to say, but the thing that I want to tell you guys the most is just thank you for the love you guys gave me”, he continued.

“I was so happy to be here with my teammates, Mikel, the coaching staff, supporting staff, everyone who was around me in this club.

“To the supporters, thank you for the love you’ve been giving me on and off the pitch. I will never forget it, and it will stay in me forever.

“To the teammates, I’m so happy that we’ve shared many memories with you guys, because I know how good you guys are, not only as players but as people.

“It’s time for a new chapter, but I’m forever proud to have been a Gunner.”
