While most know Robert Plant as the frontman to the legendary band Led Zeppelin, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member also shared a love for soccer. Having a deep appreciation for the worldwide sport, Plant eventually found his way to becoming the Vice President of the Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2009. Having watched Liverpool star Diogo Jota play over the years, the singer paid tribute to the soccer player after he sadly passed away at the age of 28 following a car crash.
Posting a collage of pictures on Twitter, Plant considered the loss of Jota to be the dimming of a shining light. “What a tragic loss. The dimming of a bright, shining light. Thank you for your magic, Diogo.” Quickly gaining over 480,000 likes, fans also took the comment section to share their message of love for Diogo and his family.

The incident occurred on July 3rd, when Jota and his brother were traveling from Portugal to Santander. Hoping to catch a ferry back to England, Jota was already preparing for pre-season training. While driving his Lamborghini, reports indicated that the car’s tire happened to burst, causing the vehicle to spin off the road and burst into flames.

Robert Plant Not The Only Legend To Remember Diogo Jota
Sadly, the car accident happened after doctors advised Jota not to fly following a minor surgery. Following their orders, the soccer player had just married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children, only two weeks ago.
With such a tragic loss, Plant wasn’t the only star to remember Jota and his contributions to soccer. Cristiano Ronaldo also shared a picture of Jota on his Instagram page, writing, “Doesn’t make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married. To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre We will all miss you.”
While police continued to investigate the crash, it’s unclear at this time who exactly was driving the luxury car when the accident happened. But no matter the details, fans all around the world are mourning the death of a soccer star.
