Gary Lineker has urged Manchester United to sign Serhou Guirassy

The idea of seeing Rasmus Hojlund leaving in search of new pastures could leave an uncomfortable gap in the attack. It’s a scenario that worries more than a few, especially since the team have struggled to find a reliable goalscorer for some time. Names are beginning to circulate, and one stands out: Serhou Guirassy, currently a striker for Borussia Dortmund.

Gary Lineker dropped the bombshell: both United and Arsenal, and even other Premier League teams, should seriously consider signing Guirassy.
The 29-year-old Guinean striker has just had an explosive season: 21 goals in 30 Bundesliga games and 13 more in 14 Champions League matches. Lineker highlighted the 29-year-old’s physical power and speed, qualities that are not often seen combined with such reliable finishing. If Hojlund decides to leave, Guirassy could be an immediate option to fill the goal-scoring void.

Firstly, Ruben Amorim’s team, if their 3-4-2-1 system is confirmed for the next season as well, needs a “9” who is capable of holding up the ball with his back to goal and, above all, finishing in the box. Guirassy fits the bill perfectly in that regard. He has the physicality to compete with the robust defenders of the Premier League, and his statistics show that he does not shy away from tough opponents.
Unlike Hojlund, who is still honing his scoring instinct, Guirassy offers immediate certainty. However, the age factor is inevitable: 29 years old is not a bet on the future. For a club that want to build a stable project, placing all the offensive responsibility on a player who will soon be approaching 30 could prove costly in the long term.

That said, we mustn’t be blind. A natural goalscorer brings confidence to the whole team. With Guirassy, Bruno Fernandes would have more freedom between the lines, Matheus Cunha could find better spaces on the wing, and the full-backs would benefit from a reference point that draws defenders.
Tactically, the Guinea man would fit seamlessly into the 3-4-2-1 formation: he would withstand high pressure, pin down centre-backs and free up the attacking midfielders. The risk is that his adaptation to the frenetic pace of the Premier League is not guaranteed. He shone in Germany, but England is a different story. Personally, I see him as a logical choice if you are looking for an immediate fix. But if it were up to us, we would look for a younger striker with room to grow and perform for at least five years. Guirassy is a good addition, but not the foundation of an attack that aspires to titles.
