Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold shared emotional messages after the heartbreaking loss of their teammate Diogo Jota on Thursday.
The tragic incident in Spain shocked the football world, resulting in the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva. Tributes have poured in from all corners of the globe, with fans and players offering their deepest condolences to the grieving family.
Jota had just gotten married last month and also lifted the UEFA Nations League with Portugal during the same period. He was part of Liverpool’s Premier League triumph as well, lifting the trophy in May.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was present during those title celebrations with Jota before leaving the club to join Real Madrid.
The right-back shared an emotional tribute: “It’s so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone. Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well. Brothers and best friends.”
He also added: “When it’s less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile. So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great teammate and a true friend. Forever number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo.”
Mohamed Salah remained silent on Thursday, but his heartbreak was clear when he posted on Instagram the next day.

Salah shared a heartfelt message on Friday, writing: “I am truly lost for words. Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Teammates come and go, but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.”
He added: “My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”
Liverpool also paid tribute to Jota by announcing the decision to immortalise his number 20 shirt.
