Leeds ‘settling for less’ to get rid of player – Deal looks worse by the day

Maximilian Wöber’s move to Werder Bremen is a loan deal with an obligation in the low-digit million range.

That’s [according to Kicker,](https://www.kicker.de/leihe-mit-kaufoption-woeber-ist-bremens-erster-neuzugang-1129129/artikel#twfeed) who cover the details of the move today after it was made official between Leeds and Werder.

They say that after a disastrous season last year in which he barely featured for Leeds after returning from a loan deal, the Premier League side were forced into ‘settling for less’ to get rid of Wöber.

He’s now joined Werder Bremen on a season long loan deal and, in the event that is made permanent, will only bring in a fee in the ‘low single-digit million range’.

That’s a major blow for Leeds, who paid €12m to sign him in 2023 and had demanded €10-12m to let Borussia Monchengladbach sign him permanently last summer.

Now they’ve had to accept a much lower, and worse deal, to move Wöber on. Reports yesterday stated the decision was pushed by Daniel Farke, who was left furious by Wöber pushing for an exit when Leeds were relegated in 2023.

Now Werder are looking to get him back on track and their head of professional football insists that they think they can do that, despite last year’s issues.

“We are very pleased that we were able to convince Maximilian to join Werder Bremen,” he said.

“With him, we are bringing in an internationally experienced defender whose quality will give us further stability in defense.

After a difficult last season, he recently made a good comeback with the national team. We are convinced that he will continue this positive trend with us.”
