Thomas Partey is set for an August court date after Metropolitan Police charged the 32-year-old with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 5, after being charged with rape by the Metropolitan Police.
The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape. Partey has been charged with two counts of rape of one woman, three counts of rape to a second woman and one count of sexual assault of a third woman.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.
Partey joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day in October 2020 - later due to the Coivd-19 pandemic - after the Gunners activated his £45million release clause at Atletico Madrid. He signed a five-year deal with the club.
Speaking at the time, manager Mikel Arteta said: "We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.
"We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club."
Partey would make 33 appearances for the Gunners in that first campaign, providing three assists. He followed that up with 26 appearances in 2021/22, scoring twice and grabbing one assist.
In 2022/23 the Ghanaian played 40 times, scoring three goals as he became an integral part of Arteta's side challenging for the Premier League title.
Groin and hamstring injuries curtailed his 2023/24 season, as he managed just 16 appearances, but he was once again a mainstay of the Arsenal midfield last season, playing 52 games, scoring four goals and managing three assists.
In total he made 167 appearances for the Gunners over a five-year period.
Arsenal were in talks over extending his contract at the club, but no deal came to fruition and with his contract ending on June 30, he left the club. Four days after leaving the Gunners, Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
