Report: Everton now want to sign ‘one of the standout players’ at the Club World Cup

Everton might be keeping a keen eye on the FIFA Club World Cup for transfers this summer.

It’s become clear this could be a transfer approach from The Friedkin Group, as David Moyes has been involved.

This comes after Moyes was spotted at the Club World Cup, as the Scotsman will be looking to uncover some gems.

His work might be coming to fruition now as Flamengo’s Wesley Franca is on Everton’s radar, as the Brazilian featured in the competition.

Now, it seems as though Moyes isn’t done with players from the tournament, as yet another gem is being monitored by Everton.

Everton reignite interest in Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios

A name Evertonians will be familiar with is Richard Rios, as the Colombian has been showing once again why he deserves a move to the Premier League.

Back in August, Everton shortlisted Rios, as Sean Dyche was clearly a fan, but now it appears Moyes is continuing his pursuit after performances at the Club World Cup, and they’ve been impressive.

Rios has been part of a Palmeiras side shocking everyone in the competition, as he grabbed the assist for the decisive goal in the 1-0 win against Botafogo.

Now, it appears Moyes is looking for a transfer, as according to Tuttomercato, Everton are interested.

Rios’ release clause stands at an extraordinary £86 million, but Palmeiras seem willing to negotiate starting from £26m.

The competition is high with Tottenham and Nottingham Forest also wanting the Colombian to join the Premier League.

Everton target Rios has been a ‘standout’ in the Club World Cup

The 25-year-old has had the chance to impress on the world stage and how he has taken it with a flourish.

It might seem reactionary that Everton are interested again after August’s interest, but January was also a time when the Toffees were exploring a deal.

£16m was wanted for Rios as it seems his performances have bumped up his value by an extra £10m, as The Friedkins missed an opportunity.

But what’s so impressive is that, according to Squawka, Rios is actually one of the ‘standout players’ in the entire tournament, showing the traits he could bring to Merseyside.

Richard Ríos has been one of the standout players at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. 💪

He has made more interceptions than any other midfielder (9), while Nelson Deossa (30) is the only midfielder to win more ground duels than the Colombian (25).

It’s a pursuit which has legs, and after Moyes’ own scouting mission at the competition, he has surely presented a shortlist to the owners, and Rios’ name is firmly on it.
