Manchester United's plans for the summer window are beginning to take shape, with the latest claim suggesting players at the FIFA Club World Cup are on their shortlist.
United have signed one player so far this summer, with Matheus Cunha arriving in a £62.5million deal from Wolves after agreeing to pay the release clause in the Brazilian's contract. There continues to be speculation about the deals United are looking to complete, with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo a priority target.
There is the expectation, though, that United will look to strengthen other areas of their squad before the September 1 deadline. A fresh report has claimed that a new goalkeeper is attracting interest from United.
According to Brazilian news outlet UOL, United rejoined the race to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor. The report claims that United recently sent scouts to watch the shot-stopper in action for Botafogo in the Club World Cup.
John helped Botafogo reach the last-16 of the competition in the United States, before the Brazilian club lost 1-0 to Palmeiras earlier this week. Despite his club being knocked out of the Club World Cup, John's performances across the group stages and the round of 16 tie has seen the goalkeeper linked with a move to the Premier League.
Botafogo earned their place in the knockout stages of the tournament with victories over Paris Saint-Germain and the Seattle Sounders in the group stages, with John playing a key role in both wins.
United already have Andre Onana as their first-choice goalkeeper, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in reserve as backup options.
There were rumours that United may need to sign a new shot-stopper when Heaton's contract was set to expire, but an agreement was reached for the 39-year-old to sign a one-year extension to remain at Old Trafford for another campaign.
