Player ‘on his way’ to Brighton – Seagulls win race, players chooses them

Club Brugge star Maxim De Cuyper is ‘on his way’ to Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal that should be worth €20m.

That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who report that the left-back has set his sights on the Premier League and Brighton are pushing for him.

The newspaper reports that the deal between Brugge and Brighton has now been completely finalised yet but should be worth at least €20m. That will increase via bonuses.

They say that it was written in the stars that De Cuyper would leave Club Brugge this summer after turning down offers last year. He elected to stay at that point to compete in the Champions League, a decision which proved to be a smart one.

He managed to shine in that competition last season and has become a permanent fixture for the Belgian national team as well. That’s seriously increased his market value and convinced Brighton, and the Premier League, to come calling.

Concrete talks had been held with other teams in recent weeks, but De Cuyper has ultimately chosen to join Brighton and the transfer is now seemingly in the final stages.
