Breakthrough: Man Utd closing in on Mbeumo deal, personal terms agreed - report

Manchester United are closing in on a second huge deal of the summer, according to reports - with a deal taking Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to the club 'edging closer to completion' as manager Ruben Amorim aims to bolster his ranks after what he called a 'disaster season'.

Mbeumo has been on United's radar all summer, despite links to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks - and having chosen the Old Trafford outfit as his preferred destination, talks have ramped up over the past few weeks, with any deal now aiming to get over the line before the Red Devils return to pre-season on Monday.

The report by The Daily Mail states that United are 'edging closer' to signing Mbeumo in what would be a 'second big transfer' for the club after the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the summer.

It certainly won't be the last as Amorim aims to rebuild his squad after arriving at Old Trafford back in November, having secured the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in the winter window - and with further exits expected, that will free up space for additions.

United are thought to have a 'compromise' in their sights, with Brentford reportedly demanding a figure in excess of £65million for their top scorer, which would be almost double the club-record £36million they brought in for Ivan Toney last summer.

Mbuemo's 20 goals for the Bees in the league last season marked him as one of the most prolific players in the Premier League, and United believe that his personal terms are in line with the new project under INEOS - with the Cameroon international demanding less than £200,000-per-week.

United have seen two bids for Mbeumo rejected already, the first being a reported £45million plus £10million in add-ons, whilst a second bid totalling £62.5million was also turned down.

Playing alongside Cunha, the two will look to massively bolster Amorim's squad - with Amad Diallo expected on the right-wing and Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park to give them added dynamism to quell last season's poor campaign with a view to at least a top-half spot.
